After years of doing family photography in Joplin, MO, I learned the importance of families booking their photographers early. Did you know there are about 2.4 million families in Missouri? Although there seems to be a photographer around each corner, most experienced photographers book up quickly with families wanting their yearly family photos, especially around the holidays and in the summer and fall seasons. By booking early, you get not only the first choice of your favorite photographer but also the dates, early session planning help, personalization, and more!
“How soon should I book my family photographer?”
I suggest a minimum of 3-6 months in advance. I book up to a year in advance. Typically I book out my seasons at least 3 months in advance for dates between January- August and 6 months in advance during September- December. Although sometimes photographers can squeeze you in, for optimal personalization and photographer choice for your session, it is best to book as early as possible.
“What if I don’t know if my family can get together that early?”
This is how I look at it. Most people don’t know their yearly schedule 6 months in advance, so by booking early, your family can typically work their schedule around it! By waiting until the last minute, there are more chances of last-minute plans coming up.
“Why should I book my family photography session early?”
Other than optimal dates and times in your photographer’s schedule, booking early also gives your photographer plenty of time to get to know your family and your vision for the session, as well as help you plan all the special details that make a session come together such as location and wardrobe.
In all, I would suggest booking your session as soon as you can! Your photographer can help you plan everything else.
