As a Kansas City baby photographer, I love creating family-centered newborn sessions filled with natural, meaningful moments, resulting in some of the most beautiful, unique photographs of your family celebrating the arrival of your little one! While I always create a custom photography flow based on your family dynamic and what is important to you, here are some of the most common photos that are included in baby photography sessions.
1. Whole family cuddling in your family’s favorite spot
A new member of your family is a big celebration for the whole family! A photo of all of you enjoying the moment and enjoying the time together can be a great way to not only relax together but create one of the most meaningful photos you will cherish in your session.
2. Mom and baby are cuddling and giving kisses.
As a mom and photographer who has captured over 1200+ families, one of the most common things I hear from moms is how much they love cuddling and giving their newborn little kisses! Capturing a photo of you doing one of the most unforgettable things as a mom can be so special, especially as time passes. You forget how tiny they are in those first few months.
3. Dad and baby spending time together
I’m going to share one of the highlights of my career as a Kansas City baby photographer. It was when I captured a daddy-daughter photo of a family that it made me realize the gravity of this particular moment.
A family had a whirlwind of pregnancy, moving, pregnancy complications, and more. The dad just got back from out of the country, missing most of his oldest childhood and all of this baby’s pregnancy and birth.. only coming home hours before this session.
I came to their home for a newborn session. It went the same as always, the family cuddling up, relaxing, and enjoying the quiet moments with their newborn.
When I asked dad if he wanted a photo of him and the baby together, he was hesitant but decided to. He held his baby up and looked into her sleeping face, and quietly started to cry with a proud smile on his face. He quietly whispered, “this is the moment it finally hit me… I’m a dad again! I haven’t had a chance to hold her yet since being home. I have never felt so much love and peace until this moment. Thank you.”
4. Siblings with baby doing their favorite things
If you have older children, having photos of the siblings together doing their favorite things to bond with a baby can be a fun way to get them involved- reading books, chatting together as they hold their baby sibling, etc.
5. Nursery photos
You worked so hard decorating their nursery. I always love capturing your family spending time in their nursery so you and your little one can reflect on these special rooms years from now.
6. Baby details
Their little feet, hands, and tiny little noses are adorable, and it is one of the first things we forget just how small our babies were
7. Recreate a photo you had as a child.
Some parents have meaningful photos as a baby with their parents, and it can be so special to recreate those moments with your child
8. Moments of you enjoying the moment
These first few weeks can be a whirlwind, and it can be nice to take a breath and enjoy the moment together. It is my client’s favorite part of the session of just enjoying the moment together. Whether that means rocking your baby to sleep, doing the walking dance trying to get them to sleep, smiling down and talking with your little one, feeding your baby, etc. These moments genuinely go by fast, and it can be so meaningful to look back at these everyday moments and appreciate the small sweet moments that make up your life with your family.
