At maternity sessions, moms always show me their ultrasound pictures before we start – I love seeing those tiny profiles and little yawns before I photograph the bump. After hearing so many KC moms talk about where they went, I put together this list of the best 3D ultrasound studios around Kansas City.
Where To Get a 3D Ultrasound in Kansas City
Here are the three studios Kansas City moms recommend most:
Baby Haven – Shawnee, KS
Looking for a calm, no-rush appointment? Baby Haven is a local, owner-led prenatal imaging center in Shawnee. You’ll find them at 22712 Midland Drive in Shawnee, KS 66226, in the Shawnee Crossings Shopping Center. Call 913-543-8565. They’re open Monday through Friday, 10 to 5. It’s self-pay and affordable, and they offer both diagnostic and elective ultrasounds plus prenatal lab testing. They were even voted Kansas City’s Best Health Clinic in 2026. Two things to know: they don’t take walk-ins, and guests need to be 18 or older.
Best for: moms who want a relaxed, personal experience without the big-clinic feel.
Little Bellies – Lenexa, KS
Want to make a day of it? Little Bellies in Lenexa is part ultrasound studio, part pregnancy spa. They’re at 11946 W 95th Street in Lenexa, KS 66215. Call 913-379-4630. They’re open 10 to 8 and take same-day appointments. Along with 2D/3D/4D/5D/HD ultrasounds, they offer prenatal massages, DNA gender testing, and an 8K realistic view option. And if your baby won’t cooperate for pictures, they’ll bring you back another day for free (Monday through Thursday).
Best for: the full pampering experience – ultrasound and prenatal massage in one trip.
Baby Bliss Ultrasound Studio – Lee’s Summit, MO
On the Missouri side and need in fast? Baby Bliss Ultrasound Studio is in Lee’s Summit at 1171 Southeast Oldham Parkway, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. Call 816-745-1116. They offer same-day appointments with 2D/3D/4D/HD ultrasounds, gender determination, check-on-baby sessions, and even an early gender blood test starting at 6+ weeks.
Best for: Missouri-side moms and last-minute appointments.
Quick heads-up: Kansas 4D Ultrasound in Olathe – a longtime local favorite – closed its doors in fall 2026 after more than 15 years. If you see it mentioned in older guides, that’s why it’s not on this list.
When Is the Best Time for a 3D Ultrasound?
Most studios suggest booking between 28 and 34 weeks. The sweet spot is usually 30 to 32 weeks – your baby has cute chubby cheeks by then but still has enough room to move into a good position for pictures.
What’s the Difference Between 2D, 3D, and 4D?
2D is the classic black-and-white ultrasound image – flat, but great for checking measurements. 3D builds a still three-dimensional picture from those images, so you can see the shape of your baby’s face. 4D adds motion, so you watch your baby move in real time.
Tips for Getting Great Ultrasound Pictures
Want the clearest images? Drink plenty of water in the days before your appointment – it helps keep your amniotic fluid clear. Have a snack or something sweet about 30 minutes before, since that often gets baby moving. And try to book at a time of day when your baby is usually most active.
If your baby is being stubborn – facing your spine, hands over the face – don’t stress. Most studios will bring you back for another try.
Can a 3D Ultrasound Tell the Gender?
Here’s something most moms don’t know: 2D is actually better for finding out the gender, starting around 15 weeks. 3D is all about seeing your baby’s face. If finding out the gender is your main goal, ask for a 2D gender check.
